Ford Flex

Vehicle Overview

The Outside
Two-tone Roof

Customization starts here. Pick one of nine colors available for Ford Flex and make your choice: stay with monochromatic or go for the optional tow-tone look. if it's two-tone your 're better, you can customize with one of two color roofs: White Suede or Brilliant Silver. And (Seven for the white and two for the silver.)

Grooved Door Panels

Like four deep character lines, the grooves are one of the many features that set Flex apar - Setting the tone for clean lines throughout. So are there solely for good design? Well, it started that way, but turns out they also make the sheet metal stiffer around the grooves than if they weren't there at all.

3.5L Duratec V6 Engine

Winner of Ward's 10 Best Engines award in 2007, the 3.5L Duratec engine will generate more than 260 horses and has a dual overhead cam and four-valves-per-cylinder configuration. When combined with the standard six-speed automatic transmission, 240lb,-ft. of torque was produced in initial testing. Translatoin? Smooth driving and effortless lane changing.

Available HID Headlights

These available High Intensity Discharge(HID) headlamps last longer, use less energy and produce more light than halogen lamps, improving visibility on the road. How do they do that? With the help of xenon (an inert gas) as opposed to the typical filament.

Available 19" Aluminum Wheels

Nine spokes of polished aluminum can say a lot about a person. We 're thinking words like confident. Good taste. Attention getter. (Feel free to Jump in at any time and start free-associating.) Slick. Attitude, High roller. Anyway, they'll definitely say a lot about you.

Optional Rearview Camera

You'll have to look twice to spot the backup camera here. So second time around, look under the Ford logo in the surrounding chrome appliqué. How does it work? Put your Ford Flex in reverse and an image of what's behind is automatically displayed on the screen. And with such a discreet placement, no one has to know what your're looking at.

Available All-Wheel Drive

Perfect for unruly road conditions, all-wheel drive automatically reacts to wheel slippage by redirecting power to the wheels with the best traction. Within milliseconds. So you don't lost grip. Not to mention, Traction Control comes standard with all-wheel drive to further improve your grip on the road by limiting wheel spin. A similar feature called Traction Assist comes with Flex's standard front-wheel drive.

Three-Bar Chrome Grille

In case you haven't noticed, clean lines are the order of the day inside and out of the Ford Flex. So it only made perfect sense for the design to include Ford's signature grille with its three chrome bars. A bold announcement wherever you go, it also ties in perfectly with the grooves on the side of the vehicle - a theme continued in the interior where everyhing has a linear look and feel.

Power LiftGate

When your arms are full, there's nothing better than this. Push a button on your key fob and the liftgate raises so you can unload and then closes when you're done. It's pretty much like magic for adults.

LED Taillamps

LEDs were chosen as the light source for these tailamps because they consume less power and last longer than most bulbs. Not to mention, they shine at full intensity around 200 milliseconds quicker than an incandescent bulb. And sometimes, 200 milliseconds can make all the difference when it comes to braking.

AdvanceTrac with RSC®

AdvanceTrac® with RSC®(Roll Stability Control) is standard equipment on every Ford Flex. This electronic stability enhancement system(besides being a mouthful) measures what other systems merely estimate. By using a sensor, roll-rate can be calculated at least 100 times every second. This, in turn, helps keep all four wheels firmly planted. Exactly where you want them.

The Inside
Seating for up to Seven

Room for six is the standard, but you can easily opt to forego the 2nd-row bucket seats for a bench that does a 60/40 split. No matter which configuration you choose, though, theater-style seating suits everyone - placing the 2nd and 3rd rows slightly higher than the one in front. So, what about the view from the driver's seat? We like to think of it as SUV-like-without the SUV-like effort to get in .

Interior Flexibility

You can pretty much split the world into two groups. Those who need to carry people along with their stuff, and those who just need stuff. So for starters, we made sure every seat except the driver's folds flat. And for those in the people/stuff category, there's a 50/50 split 3rd-row seat that lets you use one-half to load longer items while still bringing some people along.

Interior Room

Remember the last time you were in a limo? Or, Longingly looked at that seat in first class as you made your way back to coach? Well, the 2nd-row legroom in the Ford Flex will make you feel like you're there. (So much so, some 6'3" people are still in stoc.) In fact, everything inside has been thoughtfully laid out so that it won't interrupt your line of sight, creating an open sense of space no matter where you sit.

Interior Comfort

You'll get a new For Flex and want to drive everywhere in it. Even if it's just around (and around) the block, So we took interior comfort pretty seriouly - from how the seats feel to control being easily within reach to every bit of the inteior fitting beautifully together. And not only is the vehicle low to the ground so you can easily slide in and out (no stepping up here), a one-touch folding trick on the 2nd-row seat makes it easy to get in the back as well.

Multi-Panel Vista Roof

In a world where most people spend their days in a 150-square-foot cube, light can be a luxury. Indulge by opting for the available multipanel Vista Roof. Like a multitude of skylights, there are four openings overall. A power moonroof sits over the front row. The second row has two individual openings. And the third, one larger view of the world above. All there in the back have manual sunshades to protect your passengers from my any glare.

Family Entertainment System

The screen in our optional Family Entertainment System is a full 8 inches. Which, in case you were wondering, is a lot more pixels than the 7.25-inch screen of the past. And when it comes to watching your favorite movie, more pixels are a good thing, The system has two channels so passengers can easily switch back and forth between music and the DVD.

Ford Sync

Calling it an in-car communications system just doesn't do it justice. More like, dream-come-true-Bluetooth-and MP3-hub. Here's just a sampling of what is does: Connects multiple Bluetooth-enbled phones. Translates incoming text messages into speech. Allows you to control the entire library of your connected MP3 player by voice. And, of course, offers complete hands-free control your main cell phone. Want to konw even more?

Voice-Activated Navigation

With the capability to read real-time traffic info, pronounce street names and store up to 2300 songs on its hard drive, this optional voice-activated Navigation System is everyhing you could ask for in a copilot. Bonus? Climate controls and a SIRIUS tuner are seamlessly incorporated intoits beautifully smudge-resistant 8-inch touch screen. Bigger bonus? You get to choose if your copilot has a male or female voice.

Safety Canopy System

Sometimes, it's what's invisible that offers the greatest peace of mind. In addition to dual-stage front airbags, every Ford Flex comes standard with the Safety Canopy System. How does it work? An exclusive sensor anticipates a side-impact or rollover situation-deploying side curtain airbags that add protection for alll three rows. But that's not all. Besides front seat side impact airbags for enhanced chest protection, the Safety Canopy System also includes something called roll-fold technology. This technology is designed to protect someone with their head leaning toward the window at the time of impact by rolling the airbag under his or her head, thus moving it away from the glass.
